West Indies cricket stalwart Darren Bravo has opted to step away from the sport following his omission from the national squad for the ODI series against England. Despite showcasing stellar performances as the leading run-scorer in the Super50 and proving instrumental in regional tournaments over recent years, the seasoned player expressed his dismay and decision through a social media post.
Taking to Instagram, the brother of renowned cricketer Dwayne Bravo revealed that a lack of communication from the selectors had left him in a disheartening state. In a reflective message, Bravo shared, “I’ve taken some time to ponder and wonder what’s my next step moving forward as a cricketer. At this point in my career, it’s not easy or should I say it takes a lot to continue to find the energy, passion, commitment, and discipline to be able to perform to the best of my ability and put myself in a position to make my return to international cricket.”
Expressing his frustration at the absence of communication, he further stated, “Without any level of communication, I’ve been left in a very dark place. At the moment there’s three teams representing the region in multiple formats/series. That’s approximately 40–45 players, and if I can’t be in any of these teams after competing in our regional tournaments and scoring runs, therefore they are basically telling me that the writing is on the wall.”
Bravo concluded his announcement by emphasizing that he is not giving up on his cricketing journey but believes it's best to take a step back, making room for emerging talents. He wished everyone the best and expressed gratitude for having lived his dream.
Known for his consistency in Caribbean cricket, the 34-year-old batter has impressive averages of 96.2, 65.0, 48, and 83.2 runs per inning. His outstanding performance in the CG United Super50 Cup Tournament earned him the Golden Bat, having scored 416 runs. Despite his decision to step away temporarily, Bravo's impact on West Indies cricket remains significant, and his absence will undoubtedly be felt on the international stage.
