The decision on which country will host the 2023 Asia Cup is likely to be taken during the International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting next week, Sports Tak has learned. The ICC meeting is scheduled to be held in Dubai between March 17-March 20 and the Asia Cup is one of the things that is likely discussed on the sidelines.
"All stakeholders will be present at the meeting and there are chances that the matter of Asia Cup will be discussed on the sidelines," a source told Sports Tak.
In the last ACC meeting held in Bahrain, the issue pertaining to the 2023 Asia Cup was deferred to the next meeting.
"The decision will be taken in accordance with the case presented by the stakeholders but it's very likely that the tournament will be shifted out of Pakistan to some other venue," the source added.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah had earlier made it clear that India will not go to Pakistan for the 2023 Asia Cup and are open to playing on a neutral venue. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has strongly reacted to Jay Shah's statement and even threatened to pull out of the 2023 ODI Worl Cup which is slated to be held in India later in the year.
PCB chief Najam Sethi is set to raise the issue of India's reluctance to come to Pakistan for the Asia Cup in the upcoming Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and International Cricket Council (ICC) meetings.
"We have complex issues on hand but for me when I go to the ACC and ICC meetings I have kept all options open for us and we have to take a clear position now," Sethi said at the press conference in Lahore on March 13.
