Hardik Pandya smashed home runs in MrBeast's baseball challenge to win $100,000

Pandya donated the whopping prize money to charity

Indian star all-rounder Hardik Pandya made headlines across sports and entertainment after featuring in a viral baseball challenge hosted by global YouTube sensation Jimmy Donaldson, widely known as MrBeast. Stepping completely out of his comfort zone on the cricket pitch, Pandya traded his cricket bat for a baseball bat and stunned viewers by winning a high-stakes home run derby challenge, walking away with a grand prize of $100,000 (approximately Rs 94.9 lakh).

However, it was Pandya’s heartwarming gesture off the field that captured global attention: rather than keeping the earnings, the 33-year-old star donated the entire prize pool to charitable causes, supporting rescued animals and underprivileged children.

MrBeast, world-renowned for assembling elite athletes and creators for grand-scale physical challenges, brought together marquee international sports personalities to test their prowess in baseball. The objective of the contest was straightforward: hit more home runs out of the ball park than the opposition within a set number of strikes.

While batting in cricket relies on bottom-hand control, timing, and ground shots, the mechanics of a baseball swing require pure horizontal power, hip rotation, and loft. Despite having no professional baseball background, Pandya leveraged his natural power-hitting capabilities, honed through years of clearing boundaries in the IPL and international cricket—to deliver a masterclass.

Update on Hardik Pandya's injury and Team India return

While Pandya's off-field viral appearance captivated entertainment fans, his professional cricket status remains a major talking point. From captaincy shake-ups in the IPL to his international comeback roadmap, here is every recent development regarding the star all-rounder.

1. Mumbai Indians (MI) trade speculation and captaincy discussions
Following a challenging stretch for Mumbai Indians in recent seasons, including finishing ninth in IPL 2026—the franchise has been the center of intense internal re-evaluation:

Trade Talks: Reports emerged indicating that Mumbai Indians explored potential trade deals involving Hardik Pandya ahead of the IPL 2027 window, with franchises like Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, and Rajasthan Royals monitored as prospective landing spots. However, no concrete trade materialised.

Reunion with Rohit Sharma: Latest reports reveal that Hardik is completely open to remaining with Mumbai Indians and playing under Rohit Sharma’s leadership if the franchise decides to re-appoint Rohit or another senior player as captain to restructure team balance.

Management Restructure: MI recently revamped their coaching structure, bringing in Kieron Pollard as head coach, further setting the stage for tactical realignments ahead of the upcoming IPL cycle.

2. Team India Status and Comeback Journey
Hardik’s recent period with the national team has been defined by workload management and rehabilitation following key tournament cycles:

Since the 2026 T20 World Cup, Hardik has had limited appearances in national colors, missing home and away white-ball series against Afghanistan, Ireland, England, West Indies and New Zealand.

Meanwhile, going by a Dainik Jagran report, Pandya has hit another injury setback, adding to his growing list of injury concerns. Medical imaging confirmed a breakdown in the front bone (shin area) of his right leg, putting him out of action for a minimum of three weeks. This compulsory hiatus officially rules him out of the India A versus Australia A fixtures and raises serious doubts over his readiness for India's upcoming tour of New Zealand.

The mandatory recovery process requires Pandya to undergo two full weeks of strict bed rest before any physical therapy can commence. The BCCI medical team is temporarily holding off on drafting a formal rehabilitation schedule while medical panel lead Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala is away in Japan. Once Dr. Pardiwala returns and reviews the scan results directly, the board will outline a structured timeline for Pandya's return to training.

This unexpected turn of events completely upends the national team's initial comeback strategy. Having originally set a target return date of September 20, selectors had included Pandya in the India A squad for the ODI series against Australia A, slated to begin on October 6. Furthermore, the BCCI was actively finalising visa paperwork to send the star all-rounder to Japan with the Indian contingent for the Asian Games, an opportunity now lost to his physical recovery. The root of the issue traces back to a fielding drill held right before the home T20 series against Afghanistan, where Pandya felt sharp, intense pain around his right knee. While a brief period of rest appeared to ease the discomfort initially, the pain returned with even greater severity as he tried to ramp up intensity for his mandatory fitness assessment. Subsequent diagnostic scans identified the underlying shin bone damage, leaving the star cricketer back on the treatment table.
