Former South Africa spinner Imran Tahir proved that age is just a number with his sensational bowling spell for the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025. This spell decimated the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons' batting order. The 46-year-old recorded stunning figures of 5/21 in the match as the Warriors emerged victorious by a massive 83-run final.
Tahir, who is the captain of the Guyana-based franchise, has now become the the oldest captain in T20 history to record a five-wicket haul. The record was previously held Malawi’s Moazzam Ali Baig, who clinched five wickets for 22 runs against Cameroon back in September 2004. Additionally, Tahir has also become the second-oldest bowler to pick up a fifer in T20 cricket only behind Cook Islands' Tomakanute Ritawa, who recorded figures of 5/19 against Fiji in 2022.
This was Tahir's fifth fifer in T20 cricket which saw him equal the likes of Bhuvneshkar Kumar, Shakib Al Hasan, Lasith Malinga and Shaheen Afridi as the bowler with the joint second-most five-wicket hauls in T20s. The spinner, who made his debut in the format back in 2006, is the fourth-highest wicket-taker with 554 scalps in 436 matches. He has played franchise cricket all around the world and is still going strong.
It was a fine batting display from the Warriors
Meanwhile, the Warriors dominated in the match against the Falcons as they first posted a massive total of 211/3 in 20 overs thanks to brilliant knocks from Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer. The duo formed a massive partnership of 106 runs before Hope got dismissed for 82 runs. Romario Shepherd's explosive cameo of 25 runs from 8 deliveries saw the Warriors cross the 200-run mark.
In reply, the Falcons' innings never really got going as Dwaine Pretorious dismissed both of their openers within the first three overs. Tahir started dominating after getting introduced into the attack and picked up the wickets of both Shakib Al Hasan and Imad Wasim in the seventh over. He then sent Shamar Springer back to the pavilion in the ninth over before dismissing both Usama Mir and Obed McCoy in the 14th over.
