India have endured an injury concern ahead of their upcoming opening Test against Sri Lanka, with Shubman Gill ruled out of the ongoing warm-up game against Sri Lanka Cricket XI in Colombo. The India skipper picked up an injury to the ring finger of his right hand while training on the eve of the three-day practice game, forcing the side to keep him out of the clash.

The team management will not take any risk ahead of the first game, as his presence is very pivotal for the Indian side given Gill's red-hot form in the red-ball format.

According to a latest report by the Times of India, Gill will not come out to bat during the clash, as the management is quite optimistic that the Test skipper would be available for the first game against Sri Lanka.
The report claims that Gill was struck twice during the India training session on Thursday - once while batting and then again while fielding.
Big challenge in Sri Lanka
The upcoming Tests against Sri Lanka will mark India's return to action in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. Their previous assignment in the competition came in November last year, when they hosted South Africa for a two-match Test series.
