"While my cricket days come to an end, my bond with cricket will never break. I will always stay deeply connected to the game and intend to dedicate my life to giving back to the sport, mentoring the next generation, and serving the game that gave me everything," her post further read.

Comprehensive look at Meghana's International career

Sabbhineni Meghana’s international footprint spanned multiple years, characterized by grit, adaptability, and high-impact performances. Though she made her international bow early, her opportunities at the highest level came in waves due to intense competition within the powerhouse Indian batting unit.

One Day Internationals (ODIs): Meghana represented India in 3 ODIs, accumulating 114 runs at an impressive average of 38.00.

T20 Internationals (T20Is): In the shortest format, she featured in 17 matches, scoring 258 runs at a strike rate of over 102, featuring one crucial half-century with a career-best score of 69 runs.

Memorable career highlights and milestone moments

Throughout her career, Meghana was part of several historic milestones in Indian women's cricket. Her fearless approach at the crease made her a reliable weapon in powerplay overs.

The crown jewel of her international achievements arrived in July 2022, when she was named in India’s squad for the historic Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Women’s cricket made its inaugural appearance at the multi-sport event, and Meghana played a supporting role as the Indian team fought their way to the final, ultimately securing a prestigious silver medal after a hard-fought encounter against Australia. Furthermore, she was part of India’s triumphant squad that lifted the 2016 Women’s Twenty20 Asia Cup title, laying the foundation for her long-term aspirations at the international level.

Meghana’s international and domestic career was defined by matches where she stood tall against testing bowling attacks.

The ODI Breakthrough vs New Zealand (2022): After waiting years for an extended run in the 50-over format, Meghana grabbed her opportunity with both hands during India’s tour of New Zealand in February 2022. Playing in Queenstown, she notched up a brilliant 61 runs, anchoring the innings and showcasing her class against a potent Kiwi bowling line-up on foreign soil. Her series total of 114 runs across three games solidified her technical resilience.

The T20I Masterclass (69 vs New Zealand): One of her absolute finest masterclasses in international colors came when she carved out a brilliant 69-run knock in T20Is. Her innings blended traditional orthodox shots with clean, modern cross-bat power, steering India out of early trouble and setting up imposing totals.

Domestic dominance and exceptional statistics

Before breaking into the national side consistently, Meghana built a stellar reputation in the Indian domestic circuit, turning out for Andhra before moving to the heavyweight Railways team.

Her numbers across formats illustrate her sheer weight of runs:

List A Cricket: In 65 List A matches, she hammered 1,848 runs at a stellar average of 31.32, including 2 centuries and 13 half-centuries, with a career-best score of 142.

Domestic T20s: Across 80 domestic T20 matches, she amassed 1,545 runs at an average of 24.14 with 8 half-centuries and a top score of 84.

The Ranji/One-Day Trophy Pinnacle: Her selection for India was heavily catalyzed by her phenomenal run during the 2021–22 Women’s Senior One Day Trophy, where she finished as the leading run-scorer of the tournament, churning out 388 runs in a single season at an incredible peak, featuring one magnificent century and two half-centuries.

T20I Debut and the Final Chapter

Meghana’s journey in international colors began on November 20, 2016, when she made her T20I debut against the West Indies at the Dr. Gokaraju Liala Gangaaraju ACA Cricket Ground in Mulapadu, Vijayawada. Nerves were minimal as she chipped in with 17 runs off 16 balls on debut, heralding the arrival of a promising local talent.

Fast forward to the twilight of her international journey, her final appearance for India came during the Women’s Asia Cup T20 on October 10, 2022, against Thailand at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. Though she remained away from the national selection radar over the subsequent four years, she continued to display flashes of brilliance in domestic competitions like the Senior Women’s Inter Zonal T20 and One Day tournaments, wrapping up her active domestic run in late 2025 before calling it a career.

When the Women's Premier League (WPL) ushered in a new era for women's cricket, Meghana’s experience made her a sought-after commodity in the auctions.

She spent productive seasons representing the Gujarat Giants, where her aggressive intent at the top of the order gave the franchise explosive starts.

Ahead of the 2024 season, she was acquired by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the WPL auction.

She played an instrumental hand in RCB’s campaign, culminating in her being part of the historic WPL title-winning squad in 2024. Across her WPL career spanning 15 matches, she accumulated 302 runs at an average of 23.23, etching unforgettable memories for franchise fans.

As Sabbhineni Meghana hangs up her boots, she leaves behind a rich legacy of grit, elegance, and dedication, having inspired a whole generation of young girls from Andhra Pradesh and across India to dream big.
