INDW vs AUSW: Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal equal India's all-time opening partnership record in ODIs

In the three-ODI series opener against Australia ahead of ICC Women's ODI World Cup 2025, Indian openers Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal scripted history as they shared their fifth 100-plus opening stand in the format. Mandhana and Rawal became the fastest Indian opening pair in women’s ODI to register five 100-plus partnerships. 

The first on the list are Jaya Sharma and Karuna Jain who shared five 100-plus opening stands from 25 innings. Jaya shared five 100-plus stands with Anju Jain as well, but from 27 innings. 

On September 14 at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, New Chandigarh, Mandhana and Rawal shared an 114-run opening stand from 129 deliveries.

Mandhana was run out by Phoebe Litchfield's direct hit after a terrible mix-up with Rawal in the 22nd over of the innings. The 29-year-old scored 58 runs from 63 deliveries, including six fours and two sixes. Before Mandhana lost her wicket, Rawal reached her half-century from 67 balls.

Mandhana and Rawal set to break another partnership record

Mandhana and Rawal are set to break the record for most runs as an opening pair in ODIs. From 15 ODIs, they have scored 1,200 runs at an average of 80.66, including five hundred and six fifty-plus partnerships. Their highest partnership was of 233 runs. 

Jain and Sharma are currently at the top with 1,229 runs from 27 innings at an average of 49.16, including five 100-plus and three fifty-plus partnerships.

Harmanpreet backs spinners to tackle Aussie batters

Earlier, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and opted to bat first. She opted to go into the clash with four spinners and a pacer in young Kranti Goud.
