Shreyas Iyer of India looks on during the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup India 2023 India & Pakistan Net Sessions at Narendra Modi Stadium

Story Highlights:

Shreyas Iyer will lead India A against Australia A for two match red-ball series.

Shreyas Iyer was India's highest run-getter in ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

India middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer picked ICC Champions Trophy 2025 win for India as a cricketing moment that he would never forget. Unbeaten India defeated New Zealand in the Champions Trophy final to win the title at Dubai International Stadium in Dubai.

Iyer played a crucial role for India ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He was the team's highest run-getter in the tournament, forming various match-winning partnerships and making good use of his ability to navigate the middle overs phase of the game. He scored 243 runs in five innings at an average of 48.60, with two half-centuries and a strike rate of over 79. His best score was 79.

This was Iyer's first ICC tournament outing after being dropped from the BCCI's central contract list due to his alleged lack of commitment to red-ball cricket. After that incident, the stylish batter captained Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 and guided the franchise to their third IPL title, defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the final and and won the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Mumbai as a captain.

Speaking on a podcast on IQOO India's YouTube channel,  Shreyas Iyer said about the cricketing moment he would never forget, "Winning the ICC CT for India, it was the best feeling ever".

Later, after India's Champions Trophy 2025, Iyer captained Punjab Kings in the last edition of the cash-rich league, leading them to the finals. He ended up scoring 604 runs in 17 matches and innings at an average of 50.33, a strike rate of 175.07 and six fifties. His best score was 97*. Despite outstanding performance in IPL he failed to make a cut in Suryakumar Yadav-led India's squad for Asia Cup 2025.

However, Iyer has now been named as India A captain for the two-match red-ball series against Australia A. The first Test match will take place from September 16-19, and the second from September 23-26. Both matches will take place at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
