Legendary fast bowler Morne Morkel has been designated as the new bowling coach of the senior India men's team. The first day of his contract is set for September 1. The former South Africa pacer will start his tenure with the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh confined BCCI secretary Jay Shah to Cricbuzz. As per early reports, Gautam Gambhir gave a wishlist to BCCI on who he wanted in his support staff. Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate's inclusion confirmed that BCCI were ready to give Gambhir whatever he wanted. Another one of his demands was said to be appointing Morkel as the bowling coach. The former Proteas pacer has played under Gambhir during his KKR days, he was even part of the LSG camp back when Gambhir was the franchise's mentor. The legendary pacer also holds the experience of coaching an International side. He was the bowling coach of Pakistan till November 2023.

Morkel couldn't join the Indian cricket team on their new visit to Sri Lanka for three ODIs and T20Is citing personal reasons. However, now he is currently set to take over as bowling coach for the upcoming home series against Bangladesh, beginning with the Chennai Test on September 19.
