Rinku Singh was not a household name despite being a part of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) squad since 2018. Rinku did not get enough chances to prove his mettle in the presence of big stars in the middle-order. The Aligarh-born batter had his moment in the sun when he smashed Gujarat Titans (GT) Yash Dayal for five consecutive sixes in the last over to win the match in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. KKR failed to make it to IPL 2023 playoffs but Rinku Singh earned T20I callup on the basis of a stellar run in the season. The 26-year-old has scored 356 runs from 11 T20I innings at an average of 89 including two fifties. His strike rate is an astounding 176.23. In IPL 2024, Rinku did not have a good season with the bat but KKR went on the win the title.
Rinku’s story is that of an underdog. His father used to deliver gas cylinders. Now, Rinku is in fray to get selected in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad.
