Rishabh Pant's recovery has surprised BCCI, NCA medical staff; Shreyas Iyer, Jasprit Bumrah on track to return before Asia Cup: Report

SportsTak

Rishabh Pant has been making speedy recovery after a horrible accident on December 30, 2022 led to several surgeries. Pant has been posting videos of his recovery on his social media handles, posting messages for India during World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final last week. While Pant’s recovery was supposed to take most of the year, let alone him getting back to his old self, there have been some positive some signs of late.

Pant’s recovery

According to a report by ESPNCricinfo, Pant’s fast recovery has left Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and medical staff at National Cricket Academy (NCA) surprised. According to the current pace of recovery, Pant may just be ready in time for the ODI World Cup 2023 at home.

During his rehabilitation, Pant has kept a positive approach instead of focusing on the negatives as he missed entire Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season for Delhi Capitals (DC), Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 and all-important WTC final against Australia. Under the guidance of physio S Ranjikanth, Pant has been able to walk up and down the stairs without any support or visible pain. Currently, the focus is to increase his overall mobility. Aqua therapy, light swimming and table tennis have also become an integral part of his rehab.

Pant not alone

When Pant is not exercising or resting, he is keeping busy by interacting with other male and female players at the NCA. These sessions have been arranged by the NCA chief VVS Laxman to not only boost Pant's morale but budding cricketers as well.

From the core Indian squad, Pant is now the only cricketer at the NCA. Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer and Prasidh Krishna are also doing rehab at the NCA. The senior cricketers also watched the WTC final together.

Bumrah, Iyer may return for Asia Cup

Bumrah and Shreyas got ruled out of IPL and WTC 2023 final due to back injuries. After going under the knife, the NCA medical staff is targetting their return to the field before Asia Cup 2023 which will be played in September.

Bumrah has not played competitive cricket since the T20I series against Australia at home last September. On the other hand, Shreyas was ruled out of last Test of Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this year. Both of them are undergoing physiotherapy but Bumrah has started bowling as well even if it is just a few overs.
