Former India cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar feels “well rested” senior players Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah should have played in Duleep Trophy 2024. Manjrekar shared percentage of international matches the trio has played in the last five years and opined that they could have been selected for the revamped domestic tournament starting on September 5.
“India has played 249 international matches in the last 5 years. Rohit has played only 59% of those. Virat 61 % & Bumrah 34%. I see them as well rested India players. Could have been selected for the Duleep trophy,” Manjrekar wrote on his X account.
On August 27, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been released from the Team B squad. Also, unwell Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik have been replaced by Navdeep Saini and Gaurav Yadav.
When did Rohit, Kohli and Bumrah play their last Duleep Trophy match?
Plenty of players from the Test squad are playing in Duleep Trophy. The last time Rohit played in Duleep Trophy was in 2016. Bumrah whose workload has been managed considering injuries played his last Duleep Trophy match in 2016 as well. Meanwhile, Kohli’s last Duleep Trophy appearance was in 2010.
