Sony Pictures India announced on Monday that a star India batter — Shubman Gill — will be taking up the role of Pavitr Prabhakar in the upcoming animated movie 'Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse', voicing the Hindi and Punjabi versions of the movie.
This will be the second instalment of the movie, with the first part being named Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
The Hindi and Punjabi versions will Gill's voice as Pavitr’s character. With his batting prowess, Gill has been quite the draw for cricket fans as Pavitr Prabhakar in ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’, he is now prepared to win over all cricket and film fans across India.
Shubman Gill, who confesses that Spider-Man has been his favourite superhero, will be the first sports personality to lend his voice to any film.
Speaking about lending his voice to the Indian Spider-Man, Pavitr Prabhakar, Shubman shared, "I have grown up watching Spider-Man, and he is one of the most relatable superheroes. Since the movie will be debuting the Indian Spider-Man for the first time on screen, getting to be the voice of our Indian Spider-Man, Pavitr Prabhakar, in the Hindi and Punjabi languages was such a remarkable experience for me. Already, I feel superhuman. I am eagerly anticipating the release of this movie."
Gill has been in fine form in his role as India's opener across all three formats of the game. At 23, India have a century across all three formats of the game, including five in the past year, and a double century in ODI cricket as well.
He also played a key role in his Indian Premier League (IPL) team Gujarat Titans (GT) lifting the trophy during the 2022 season. In the current IPL 2023 season, he has scored 469 runs in 11, including four half-centuries and a highest score of 94. His average in the ongoing tournament is 46.90 and his strike rate was 143.42.
