India's favourite football knockout tournament, the Hero Super Cup, will kick off on April 8, but before that, Mumbai City FC and Jamshedpur FC will battle it out for a spot in the 2023-24 AFC Champions League.
Mumbai City was the winner of the Indian Super League Winner's Shield during the 2022-23 season, while Jamshedpur won the coveted trophy in the 2022-23 season. Hence, the two sides will play a one-off match to determine who qualifies for AFC Champions League 2023-24 Group Stage.
India have been allocated three spots for the Asian football continental competitions — one in the AFC Champions League Group Stage, one in the AFC Cup Group Stage, and one slot for the AFC Cup Qualifiers. It is yet to be decided as to who will fill the remaining two spots.
The games for the other two slots will depend on results from other competitions, but if required, they will be played on April 29 and May 3 respectively.
Meanwhile, the Hero Super Cup is one of India’s biggest football competitions and features teams from both the Hero Indian Super League and the Hero I-League. The tournament kicks off with the Cupo qualifiers, with the first match between Bengaluru FC and one of the qualifying teams, and the second between the Kerala Blasters FC and Roundglass Punjab FC.
When is the Super Cup kicking off?
The Hero Super Cup will start with the I League qualifiers on April 5. The main tournament will start on April 8.
Which state will play host to the teams during the Super Cup?
All matches will be played in Kerala. The MS Corporation Stadium in Kozhikode and the Payyanad Stadium in Manjeri will host the matches. FC Goa are the defending champions and will be eyeing a successful title defence.
What time are the matches going to be played?
There are two matches till the semifinals — at 5:00 PM and 8:30 PM IST.
