Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have announced the departure of head coach Chandrakant Pandit after completing his two-year stint with the Kolkata-based franchise. The decision came after the franchise's disappointing campaign, where KKR finished eighth on the points table, failing to qualify for the playoffs.
Pandit joined the Kolkata-based franchise in 2022 and led them to the first title in 2024. KKR took their 'X', formerly known as Twitter, to announce his departure.
"Mr. Chandrakant Pandit has decided to explore new opportunities and will not continue as Head Coach of Kolkata Knight Riders. We are thankful for his invaluable contributions - including leading KKR to the TATA IPL Championship in 2024 and helping build a strong, resilient squad. His leadership and discipline have left a lasting impact on the team" posted KKR.
Pandit is a reputed figure in Indian domestic cricket and joined the franchise in 2022 after his success with Madhya Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy. After winning IPL 2024, KKR failed to replicate the success as they managed to win just five matches out of 14 outings.
Under Pandit, KKR registered 22 wins of the 42 games across three seasons while losing 18 (2 no-results). Nayar was recently named as the UP Warriorz head coach in the Women's Premier League, where he will set to continue the role.
