WPL 2027 Auction wrapped up: Know the most expensive buy, top picks, full list of sold-unsold players

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2027 auction in Kochi concluded on a high note, setting the stage for another thrilling edition of the tournament. The action-packed auction saw intense bidding wars among the five franchises as they meticulously constructed their final rosters, balancing marquee international talent with rising domestic stars.

Sophie Molineux becomes most expensive pick in WPL 2026 auction

Australian skipper Sophie Molineux commanding the day's highest bid, joining UP Warriorz for Rs 1.1 crore. Meanwhile, middle-order batter Kiran Navgire emerged as the costliest Indian purchase, moving to Delhi Capitals for Rs 75 lakh. Driven by intense bidding battles and strategic squad retooling, the event saw 25 of the 27 available open slots across the five franchises successfully filled.

UP Warriorz entered the day with the largest war chest (Rs 3.75 crore) and eight open slots following a major squad overhaul. They operated aggressively to secure Molineux after outbidding her former team, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who eventually pulled out at Rs 1.05 crore. UPW filled every available spot on their roster, also securing Indian international Sneh Rana, wicketkeeper-batter Sushma Verma, and former player Grace Harris at Rs 30 lakh each, alongside Scottish all-rounder Kathryn Bryce for Rs 10 lakh.

Titleholders Royal Challengers Bengaluru opted for a patient approach, skipping the first ten sets entirely before making their moves in the accelerated phase. RCB added veteran Australian all-rounder Jess Jonassen for her base price of Rs 40 lakh and South African powerhouse Chloe Tryon for Rs 30 lakh, leaving them with one unused spot alongside Delhi Capitals. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians navigated the auction on a tight Rs 90 lakh budget, focusing exclusively on domestic depth by signing six uncapped Indian players, including Shweta Sehrawat for Rs 20 lakh.

The auction featured a mix of historic milestones and notable omissions. Fifteen-year-old Karnataka all-rounder Uma Kashvi became the youngest player ever signed in WPL history when Delhi Capitals picked her up for Rs 10 lakh. Gujarat Giants made headlines by securing Ireland's Orla Prendergast (Rs 30 lakh), marking the first WPL contract for an Irish cricketer, while also picking up G Kamalini (Rs 40 lakh) and 16-year-old Samaira Raghav (Rs 10 lakh). Conversely, high-profile international figures like Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu and England batter Sophia Dunkley generated no interest from franchises and ended up unsold.
