Arjun Tendulkar, who turns out domestically for Goa, has been in good form in the opening two matches of the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. On Tuesday, October 17, his team faced Manipur in their second Group C game, and the young all-rounder took two crucial wickets to dismantle their top order and help restrict the opponents to just 122/9 runs.
Tendulkar first got the wicket of their set opener Nitesh Sedai, who managed to score 22 runs in just 10 balls courtesy of 4 fours and a six. Johnson Singh, who was looking dangerous after scoring his 50 off 45 balls and was accelerating in his innings, was also dismissed by Tendulkar in the 19th over.
Tendulkar finished with 2/27 in his three overs, which means he now has five wickets in two matches. This is because of the three wickets he managed to bag in his team's first match of the tournament against Andhra. In this game, he took the three wickets across four balls, as the opponents, chasing 233 runs for the win, went from 191-4 to be dismissed for 201 runs.
Arjun Tendulkar delivered a match-winning performance in the first game, claiming wickets on the second and third deliveries he bowled in the 19th over. In the final 4 deliveries of his spell, Arjun clinched three wickets. Even though he conceded 46 runs in just 3.3 overs, his timely wickets ensured a victory for his team.
The run-chase was a fairly simple one as well, with Ishaan Gadekar, KV Siddhanth and Suyash Prabhudessai all scoring to help his side to the win. They took just 16.2 overs to finish their run-chase.
In the other group game, In a record-breaking performance at the JSCA stadium in Ranchi, Punjab's cricket team set the highest score ever by an Indian T20 side during their Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023 clash against Andhra Pradesh. Punjab's total of 275 for 6 in 20 overs surpassed the previous record of 263, set by Indian Premier League side Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2013 against Pune Warriors India.
The star of the show, Abhishek Sharma, dazzled with a 51-ball 112, propelling Punjab to this monumental score. His innings, studded with nine fours and an equal number of sixes, left Andhra's bowlers clueless. Following this, Anmolpreet Singh's explosive 87 off 26 balls, featuring 6 fours and 9 sixes, further boosted the team's total.
