Ayush Mhatre slammed a 49-ball hundred for Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in their clash against Vidarbha. Thanks to his fabulous knock of 110 runs from 53 deliveries, the side led by Shardul Thakur went on to chase down the target of 193 with 13 deliveries left to spare. Notably, this was Mhatre's first-ever century in T20 cricket and it saw him break Rohit Sharma's long-standing record.
Mhatre breaks massive record
The 18-year-old Mhatre has now become the youngest player to score a century in T20s, first-class cricket and List A cricket. Rohit had previously held this record for 19 years as he had scored a century in all three formats by the age of 19 years and 339 days. The 38-year-old had created this record during the early part of his career when he was still regularly featuring in domestic cricket.

Coming to the match, Vidarbha had posted a formidable target on the board for Mumbai thanks to fifties from their opening duo of Atharva Taide (64) and Aman Mokhade (61). Mumbai got off to a poor start as they lost Ajinkya Rahane for a two-ball duck and their second wicket fell in the third over. However, Mhatre steadied the innings alongside Suryakumar Yadav, who also played a valiant inning of 35. Shivam Dube also remained unbeaten on 39 as Mumbai went on to win comfortably by 7 wickets.
Mhatre to lead India in U-19 Asia Cup
Meanwhile, Mhatre has been appointed as India's captain for the U-19 Asia Cup that will begin from December 12. He has previously led the U-19 team for some assignments, but will now be captaining them in an important tournament. Vaibhav Suryavanshi is also present in India's squad for the tournament.
