Harbhajan Singh shared his verdict on Bangladesh wanting to shift their T20 WC matches

Bangladesh will not be travelling to India for the T20 World Cup

Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh believes that if Bangladesh don't want to come to India for the 2026 T20 World Cup, then it is their choice. He also urged the ICC to take a decision on Bangladesh's request and added that the events that took place in the country are wrong.

“Due to the various events that have taken place in the past few days, Bangladesh does not want to come to India. Whatever happened in Bangladesh is wrong. ICC needs to make a decision on their request. We welcome everyone to India, but whether they (Bangladesh) want to come here or not is their choice," Harbhajan said.

BCB want to shift their team's venues

This statement comes after the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) wrote to the ICC seekking to shift their 2026 T20 World Cup matches from India to Sri Lanka. Pakistan is also scheduled to play all their matches of the tournament in Sri Lanka. The BCB took this decision after BCCI had directed the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to release Mustafizur Rahman over reports of violence against Hindu minorities in the country.

KKR had signed Mustafizur for a fee of INR 9.2 crore at the IPL 2026 mini-auction. Though it looked like a routine signing at first, things quickly escalated and the franchise started receiving massive backlash for choosing the player. Things only got worse between the two cricket boards when Mustafizur got released as the BCB arranged an emergency meeting on the same day. It was this meeting where they decided to write to ICC that the Bangladesh cricket team will not be travelling to India for the tournament.

BCB order ban on IPL broadcast

They even went on to order a ban on IPL broadcast in Bangladesh until further notice. It remains to be seen as to where will the Tigers will be playing their share of games in the T20 World Cup. They are placed in Group C alongside England, Italy, Nepal and West Indies. They are scheduled to begin their campaign with the clash against West Indies on February 7.
