India's bowling strategy for T20 World Cup 2026 revealed 'so that the teams won't have set plans'

India bowling coach Morne Morkel lavished praise on pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026, which is scheduled to take place in India and Sri Lanka from February 7. Morkel, who is currently alongside Suryakumar Yadav-led India for the five-match T20I series against New Zealand, compared Bumrah to Ferrari. 

Morkel on India's bowling plans

After finishing the five-match T20I series against New Zealand, Team India will assemble in Mumbai for the T20 World Cup 2026, where they will face South Africa in their only warm-up clash before heading into the tournament. While being asked about India's bowling plans for the marquee event, the bowling coach revealed that the squad have a lot of bowlers and the management will try different combinations so that the teams won't have set plans.

Jasprit is the best bowler in the world, very skilful. There is always a lot of expectations, that kind of burden can take its toll. For me, I am checking with him to see he is comfortable, on plans. He is like a Ferrari," said Morne Morkel ahead of the fourth T20I against New Zealand.

 

"We have a handful of bowlers who can bowl in any situation. Going into the WC, we wanted to have different combinations, so that the teams won't have set plans. Hardik can bowl with the new ball, he can bowl at the backend of the innings. In terms of Hardik, he is looking fit, getting good bounce" added Morkel.

Defending champions India will start their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign against the United States and the high-voltage clash between India and Pakistan will take place on February 15.
