Former India cricketer Ravi Shastri has named the Suryakumar Yadav-led India team and Australia as two sides that could score over 300 runs in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026. The tournament is set to be held in India and Sri Lanka starting February 7.
Ravi Shastri picks teams that can cross the 300-run mark in the T20 World Cup 2026
The World Cup is likely to feature some high-scoring games, particularly in matches played in India. In recent IPL seasons, teams have not only posted huge totals in the first innings but have also managed to chase them down successfully.
"I think Australia, India look as the teams to pass that 300-run mark. These are the two teams I would pick as the frontrunners to get this because of the kind of players both have. Very explosive, esepcially at the top and if one guy gets 100 at the top, then you're close to that 300," Shastri told Sanjana Ganesan on the ICC Review.
Highest World Cup totals
Interestingly, the highest-ever total in T20 World Cup history is 260, scored by Sri Lanka against Kenya in the very first edition in 2007 in Johannesburg. India’s highest score in the tournament also came in that edition, when they posted 218 against England. Meanwhile, Australia’s best T20 World Cup total is 201 runs.
T20 World Cup 2026 matches
Notably, the T20 World Cup 2026 will host 55 matches, where Sri Lanka will host 20 matches, including six Super Eight matches and the tournament's high-voltage clash between India and Pakistan, which will take place on February 15 at Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium. The venue for the final depends upon Pakistan's qualification. If the Men in Green manage to qualify for the title decider, it will take place in Sri Lanka; otherwise, defending champions India will host the finale.
