After putting up a show with the bat on Day 1, England dazzled with the ball as well on Day 2 of the ongoing Ashes opener against Australia at Edgbaston on Saturday (June 17). Australia resumed their innings with an overnight score of 14/0 but little did they know how the things would pan out on Day 2. Warner did survive the tricky 20-minute session against Stuart Broad on Day 1 but to only become star English pacer's bunny once again in the Ashes encounters. Australia were unscathed on the score of 29 but Broad gave England a much-needed breakthrough in the 11th over and hunted down David Warner. This was the 15th time when Broad dismissed Warner in the Ashes.

Warner (9 off 27) was looking to drive the ball towards cover to Broad's full-length delivery which came from around the wicket. But Broad's ball ended up taking the inside edge of Warner's bat and hit the leg stump to extend Australia's opener nightmare. Seconds after Warner's dismissal, Broad was spotted over the moon in his celebration as he knew what he just did while Warner cursed his luck and took the longest walk towards the pavilion with his head held down.

Australia's misery didn't end their as Broad struck back to get another prized wicket of Marnus Labuschagne on golden duck. Labuschagne chipped the a full and wide delivery and edged the ball which went towards Jonny Bairstow who took a diving catch to his right to see the star batter taking the longest walk towards the pavilion.

Warner and Labuschagne's dismissals left Australia struggling at 29/2. In came Steve Smith then tried to steady Australia's boat with opening partner Usman Khawaja as the duo added 38 runs in 16.3 overs. But in the 27th over England skipper Ben Stokes produced a stunning in-swinger which missed Smith's bat and the batter was given out LBW which left Australia in trouble yet again.

Earlier on Day 1, Ben Stokes in a bold move declared England's innings after piling 393/8. The biggest partnership of their innings was between Root and Jonny Bairstow as the pair added a quick-fire 121. Stokes declared the innings a couple of overs after Root reached his 30th Test hundred and his first against Australia since 2015.
