West Indies' former star all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has achieved a rare milestone in T20 cricket and registered his name in the record book to become the first player to snare 600 wickets in T20 cricket history. Bravo, who is playing for Northern Superchargers in the ongoing Men's Hundred tournament, achieved this feat in a match against Oval Invincibles on August 11 (Thursday).
Bravo, who has already called it quits to International cricket, dismissed Oval Invincibles' batsman Rilee Rossouw for this unprecedented milestone.
The T20 veteran all-rounder has dismissed the highest number of batters in the shortest format of the game. The second in the list of players with the most wickets in T20s is Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan, who is yet to reach 500 and has a total of 466 wickets to his name from 339 matches.
During his career, Bravo has represented more than 25 teams in T20s since making his debut against New Zealand in Auckland on February 16, 2006. The right-arm medium has picked up 78 wickets in 91 matches for West Indies, and the rest of the 522 wickets came when he represented various other sides in domestic and franchise cricket leagues around the world.
Bravo won T20 World Cup titles with the West Indies team before retiring from international cricket. Bravo is also the leading wicket-taker in the IPL's history.
Bravo has dismissed 183 batters in 161 IPL matches while representing four-time champions Chennai Super Kings and has twice won the Purple Cap, which is awarded to the highest wicket-taker of the season. In the 2022 edition of the IPL, which took place across four venues in Maharashtra and then the playoffs in Kolkata and Ahmedabad, Bravo broke Sri Lankan legend Lasith Malinga’s record to take the numero uno position in the highest wicket-takers list.
Talking about the match, the Oval Invincibles won the toss and decided to field first earlier in the day. The Northern Superchargers finished with 157 runs scored in their 100 balls thanks to an opening batsman’s 33-ball 79. For the Invincibles, Sunil Narine bowled an outstanding spell of 3/11.
Sam Curran and Jordan Cox’s 67-run partnership helped Oval, which was chasing 158 for victory, get back into the game after falling to 21/3. Curran took the attacking stance and scored 60 runs off just 39 pitches. He hit two fours and five sixes in his knock.
