The Board of Control for Cricket, along with experts like VVS Laxman, recently announced a significant change in the fitness evaluation process for Indian cricket players. The long-used yo yo test has been replaced by the Bronco test to better assess players' fitness levels. This change addresses concerns about the Yo Yo test’s demanding nature during ongoing series, which can hinder player recovery. The Bronco test offers a more suitable conditioning alternative and can be repeated throughout the season.
The Bronco test is designed to measure anaerobic fitness and conditioning through multiple runs of varying distances. It involves five loops of running 20, 40, and 60m, back and forth, testing a player's endurance and recovery ability in a controlled manner. This method is considered more robust and appropriate for continuous monitoring of fitness across different age groups within the national cricket structure.
