India batting great Virat Kohli had made his comeback in the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) after a long 15-year gap as the BCCI made it mandatory for players to feature in domestic cricket if they are not busy with international assignments. Kohli, who is featuring for Delhi in their VHT opener clash against Andhra, has smashed a century in his first outing of the one-day domestic tournament.
Kohli surpasses Sachin Tendulkar
The batting great completed his 100-run mark in 84 balls, and soon after completing the 100-run mark, he looked back towards the dugout, asking if Rishabh Pant was ready to come in to bat.
Apart from centuries, Kohli also surpassed cricketing god Sachin Tendulkar as the fastest to reach 16,000 runs in List A cricket, achieving the milestone in his 330th innings in the domestic tournament. Tendulkar reached this milestone in 391 innings.
Despite his long and storied career, Kohli is still chasing Tendulkar’s record of 60 centuries in List A cricket. He currently holds 57 centuries, four ahead of Tendulkar’s former record of 53 in the ODI format.
