The ongoing T20 Blast 2022 has delivered a few high-scoring affairs so far. Yorkshire were able to pull off their biggest run chase in the format, that too with 14 balls to spare. David Willey played the perfect captain's knock in a huge run chase of 208 against Durham.
Flop for RCB, hero for Yorkshire
Skipper Willey scored an unbeaten 75 off just 39 deliveries to help his team register a big win at Headingley, Leeds. Earlier, in the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) gave a few chances to the English all-rounder but he could not make them count.
Batting at no.3 for Yorkshire, he came in to bat in the fourth over after Finn Allen contributed with a cameo of 29 off 12 deliveries. Willey shared a crucial 70-run partnership for the second wicket with opener Adam Lyth.
The acceleration
Yorkshire were going all guns blazing which meant they were way ahead of the required run rate at halfway stage. However, Lyth looked to continue the onslaught and got out in the 10th over. The 34-year-old scored 77 runs from 33 deliveries including 10 fours and three sixes.
Finishing in style
When Lyth got out, Willey was batting on 17 off 14 deliveries. He shifted to fifth gear in the next over by taking on Brydon Carse. In the 14th over, he reached his half-century from 27 deliveries. He had support from the other end as Will Fraine played a 13-ball 22 cameo. Willey was not in a mood to take it to the last over and finished the run chase with a four and six in the 18th over. His 75-run knock included eight fours and three sixes.
Durham post big total
Earlier, Willey conceded 32 runs in his three overs. Jordan Thompson turned out to be the most economical bowler as he conceded 32 runs and picked up four wickets in his quota of four overs. For Durham, opener Graham Clark and wicketkeeper-batter Oliver Robinson scored half-centuries to help their side post 207/8.
