T20 Blast: Chris Lynn shows IPL teams his true form with 94.75 average and second century for Northamptonshire

Unpicked by any of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 teams during the mega auction in February, Australian opener Chris Lynn has gone big in the ongoing T20 Blast in England, with his second century of the season. Lynn carried the bat with his 113 from only 57 balls scored for Northamptonshire as the Steelbacks piled on 220/3, going on to register a massive 73-run win over Worcestershire Rapids at the County Ground in Northampton.

Lynn's innings were a brilliant one, with eight fours and nine sixes to help his team to the unassailable target. It was a spectacular achievement as the opener picked up a little niggle when he was on 97 but was allowed to continue his innings with a runner.

His century for Northamptonshire pushed Lynn to the top of the run-getters in the T20 Blast with 379 runs to his name and a brilliant average of 94.75. Lynn has registered scores of 16, 83, 106*, 61, 0, and 113* this season. It was the second time that Lynn has carried the bat for his team on two occasions for his side.

He is 94 runs ahead of the next best, South Africa's Rilee Rossouw at 285). Not far behind in the third spot on the run-scorers list is Singaporean Tim David, who has continued his purple patch from IPL 2022 to smash 264 runs in seven innings.

However, Lynn was not the only player to shine for the Steelbacks against the Rapids. He was ably backed by skipper Josh Cobb, who scored 50 off 30 and set up a 115-run partnership with Lynn.

Worcestershire, who have now lost six of their seven matches, never looked like getting close to the mammoth target and were tamely dismissed by 147 runs, with Cobb shining with the ball this time and scalping career-best figures of 5 for 25.

The win takes the Steelbacks to second on the North Group points table, just two points behind Lancashire, who are yet to lose a game this season. Meanwhile, the Steelbacks have lost twice this season — once to the North Group leaders Lancashire, and before that to the Birmingham Bears in their opening match of the season.
