Glenn Maxwell has recently addressed the incident leading to his hospitalization in January, a story that had gained significant attention in Australian media. Reports emerged that Maxwell was taken to the hospital on January 22, after collapsing during a night out with friends, with allegations of alcohol involvement.
The situation escalated, prompting Australia's captain Pat Cummins and coach Andrew McDonald to publicly address the matter. They acknowledged the incident and emphasized the importance of Maxwell reassessing his actions.
Making a striking comeback to international T20 cricket, Maxwell showcased his resilience and skill by scoring a remarkable century in the second T20I against the West Indies. During a press interaction in Adelaide, he openly discussed the January incident for the first time, revealing the impact it had on his family and expressing relief at moving past the so-called "Adelaide curse."
"I think probably it affected my family a little bit more than it affected me," Maxwell said.
"I knew I had that week off. And obviously that incident was less than ideal, and the timing. But I had that week off, I knew I had that week off away from the game," Maxwell further added.
Maxwell sets sights on T20 World Cup
Maxwell also mentioned that his primary focus is now on contributing to the Australian team's success, especially with the T20 World Cup on the horizon, following the Indian Premier League.
"And I came back and got back into my running, my gym program and it felt really good and refreshed once I got back. And it's all been focused on getting myself ready for this (T20) series and what's to come," Maxwell said.
"We know we have got four international games until the (T20) World Cup and how it comes around pretty quick. And I just try to make sure I'm in as good a space that I can be for that tournament," the all-rounder concluded.
In his recent T20I performances, Maxwell has been in exceptional form, hitting two centuries in his last three matches. Notably, one of these centuries was scored against India in Guwahati, following the ODI World Cup 2023. His statements and recent performances underscore his determination to focus on his cricketing career and contribute significantly to the Australian team's ambitions, especially in the lead-up to the T20 World Cup.
