Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting poked fun at West Indies pacer Kemar Roach with a cheeky remark recalling his battle with him in 2009. Kemar Roach who is a part of West Indies' team for the ongoing first Test of the series had hit Ponting on his elbow 13 years ago.
“He owes me $5million, he hit me on the elbow here in a Test match and then got a couple of really big IPL contracts on the back of it,” Ponting was quoted as saying by 7Cricket.
Ponting is considered as one of the greatest players of the pull shot. However, Roach managed to trouble Ponting with his short balls. The two went up against each other often. Roach got the better of him five times whereas the Australian managed to score 100 runs from 158 deliveries.
Roach got picked by now-defunct Deccan Chargers in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2010. The Caribbean pacer played just two matches for the Adam Gilchrist-led Chargers but remained wicketless and leaked runs at an economy of 10 runs per over. Roach did not play another IPL game after 2010.
More than a decade later, Roach bowled against the Pat Cummins-led side. On the bouncy track of Perth, Roach bowled 26 overs including three maidens and conceded 91 runs on first two days. He remained wicketless as Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith scored double centuries followed by Travis Head's 95-ball 99 to post 598/4 before declaring.
Earlier, Ponting also talked about exciting Aussie talent Cameron Green who will be on the list of many IPL franchises ahead of the auction later this month.
"Maybe not here on-air but keep your phone on tonight. I'm really interested to have an IPL conversation with you about Cam Green cos I freed up a fair bit of money for Delhi Capitals this year. I wanna low-down on how much he's gonna be available. The fans will love him," Delhi Capitals coach Ponting told Australian head coach Andrew McDonald on Day 1 of the Perth Test.
