West Indies head coach Darren Sammy feels that the pace attack that they have picked for the two-match Test series against India can held them get all the 20 wickets required. They have selected the likes of Shamar Joseph, Jayden Seales, Alzarri Joseph and Anderson Phillip in their squad and will also be having the services of fast-bowling all-rounder Justin Greaves.
Sammy expressed confidence in the pace attack and remarked that they have been able to perform well in all conditions possible. He further remarked that all the four seamers that they have chosen in the squad have their own variety.
"We have found ourselves in a position where our seam attack could operate in any conditions. That six-to-eight-metre length works across the world. But in our fast-bowling department, we've got four different guys who have their own variety," Sammy said in a press conference.
"You have Shamar Joseph, who's very skiddy, Jayden, who has a strong front leg and can swing the ball both ways, then you have Alzarri Joseph with his height and the bounce he could extract. So, again, we take confidence in that, especially the way they've been bowling over the last year. The ability to take 20 wickets, because that's what you will need in India. If you can't take 20 wickets in India, you are on the back foot and we have a bowling line-up of that, especially from the seam department, that could take 20 wickets," he added.
Sammy also recalled how New Zealand were able to put India on the back-foot through their bowling when the two sides had met in a three-match Test series last year. The former West Indies captain remarked that they will be taking 'inspiration' from the Kiwis and will be trying to 'emulate' what they did. Notably, the Black Caps took on the Men in Blue last year and became the first side in history to whitewash a Test series on Indian soil. They won all the three matches as Rohit Sharma & Co. got outclassed in both the batting and bowling department at their home.
"New Zealand went there and did incredibly well and that we should take inspiration from. But again, it's understanding the things that New Zealand did in those conditions and try to emulate it with our guys as well," Sammy stated.
The series to begin from October 2
Meanwhile, the two-match Test series between India and West Indies will begin from October 2. This will be both the sides' second assignment of the new World Test Championship. While India had drawn their red-ball series against England by 2-2, West Indies had suffered a thumping 0-3 series deffeat at home to Australia in their previous Test assignment.
