Roston Chase revealed Brian Lara and Viv Richards' message to the team

Second Test between India and West Indies to commence from October 10

West Indies captain Roston Chase revealed that the trio of Brian Lara, Vivian Richards and Richie Richardson gave the team some valuable advice ahead of the second and final Test of the series against India. The three lgends met the squiad during an event in Delhi on Wednesday and advised them to never stop believing in themselves.

“Yes, we had a team event yesterday, and I had the privilege of speaking with all three (Richards, Lara and Richardson) of them. They told me to keep believing — we may be down at the moment, but things will change," Chase told reporters.

“That change can start now, and it begins with the belief and mindset of every player. My focus is to keep motivating the guys so that we continue playing positive cricket and turn around our current situation," he added.

Chase further pointed out how there is a lack of quality batters in the team and added that this is due to the standards of first-class cricket not being maintained properly.

“I can’t speak for everyone, but from my own perspective, it comes down to confidence and playing enough quality first-class cricket," Chase stated.

“The more time you spend facing good bowling attacks, the more you learn to handle pressure and improve on your weaknesses. When you start your career, opponents don’t know much about you, but after a few matches, they pick on your flaws. It’s up to the players to identify those areas early and work hard to correct them," he added.

West Indies' poor start to new WTC cycle

Meanwhile, West Indies have had a horrific start to the new World Test Championship (WTC) cycle as they first recorded a series whitewash by 0-3 against Australia at home before being handed a heavy defeat by the Men in Blue. They are yet to register their first victory of the tournament and they will need to improve their performance massively in all sectors in order to win in their coming matches.

India aiming for series whitewash

On the other hand, India will have a chance of clean sweeping the series when they will face West Indies in the second Test. The Men in Blue look to be in fine form at the moment and will be looking to maintain that form in the final match of the series as well. The game is set to begin from October 10 at the Arun Jaitley stadium
