Quinton de Kock, Reeza Hendricks combine to break T20I world record with absolute carnage vs West Indies

South Africa opening pair Quinton de Kock and Reeza Hendricks created history in T20I cricket on March 26 at SuperSport Park, Centurion. They scored 102 runs from six overs, the highest powerplay score in T20I cricket. The Proteas opening pair broke West Indies’ record which was created in 2021. West Indies scored 98/4 in powerplay overs against Sri Lanka.
 

De Kock scored the fastest fifty for South Africa from just 15 deliveries. South Africa reached the 100-run mark from just 33 deliveries. Overall, it is the fourth-fastest T20I fifty. The wicketkeeper-batter unleashed himself in the second over with three consecutive sixes off Sheldon Cottrell. 29 runs came off left-arm Caribbean pacer's first over. South Africa reached the 50-run mark from just 2.4 overs with De Kock hitting left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein for a six.

 

He reached his maiden T20I century in the 11th over of the run chase. He took just 43 deliveries to reach the three figures, the second-fastest T20I ton for South Africa. Also, it is the fastest T20I ton against West Indies. He got dismissed by Raymon Reifer in the 11th over. The left-handed batter hit nine fours and eight sixes in his 44-ball 100.

Earlier, West Indies registered their highest T20I score. They scored 258/5, the seventh-highest T20I score. Johnson Charles went berserk and scored 118 runs from just 46 balls including 10 fours and 11 sixes. 
 

Charles reached his maiden T20I century from just 39 deliveries, the fastest for West Indies. His 118-run knock is the second-highest T20I score by a West Indies batter. Also, he became the fourth West Indies batter after Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis and Rovman Powell to hit a T20I century.
 

Sisanda Magala, who recently got picked by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as a replacement for Kyle Jamieson leaked too many boundaries. Magala conceded 67 runs from his full quota of four overs.
