Two crunch matches are scheduled to take place on the last day of the league stage in the ongoing inaugural edition of the Women's Premier League (WPL) on March 21 (Tuesday). The first match of the day will be played between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians while in the evening, UP Warriorz will cross swords against Delhi Capitals. With Bangalore and Gujarat Giants already out from the race of Eliminator and the final, the rest three franchises will have a chance to directly qualify for the final on Tuesday.
The team that tops the standings will directly qualify for the final while the second-placed and third-placed sides will compete in the eliminator.
Here are the qualification scenarios:
Mumbai Indians: Haramanpreet Kaur's side is currently second on the points table. For them to qualify straight to the final, Mumbai will first have to win against Bangalore and then hope Delhi Capitals loses against the UP Warriors later in the day.
Delhi Capitals: Meg Lanning's side is currently at the top of the points table. If they beat UP Warriorz, they will most likely qualify for the final directly. Having said that, if Mumbai and Delhi both win their respective matches, then it will build down to which team has a better Net Run Rate (NRR).
UP Warriorz: Alyssa Healy's side is currently third on the points table. Their route to direct qualification for the final is slightly tricky. First, they will have to beat Delhi Capitals by a massive margin as their NRR is poor. Secondly, they would have to hope that Mumbai loses their game against Bangalore by a huge margin. Only then, UP would have a chance to directly qualify for the final.
