There have been two batters who have scored a century in a WTC final. Both these knocks belong to Australian batters.
Defending champions Australia are set to take on South Africa in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final at the Lord's, London, starting June 11. On the eve of the high voltage clash, here are top five scores in WTC finals -
5. New Zealand opener Devon Conway scored 54 runs from 153 balls in his side's first innings in WTC 2021 final against India. Conway faced 153 balls and hit six fours during his patient knock at the Rose Bowl, Southampton. He helped New Zealand post 249 on the board in the first innings and take a 32-run lead.
4. Australia wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey played a crucial knock of unbeaten 66 from 105 balls, including eight fours, against India at The Kennington Oval, London. Carey's half-century came in Australia's second innings, helping them set a mammoth target of 444.
3. The only Indian batter on the list is Ajinkya Rahane. A late addition to India's WTC 2023 final squad, Rahane scored 89 runs from 129 balls against Australia. His knock featured 11 fours and a six. He was dismissed by Australian captain Pat Cummins. His knock helped India post 296 on the board. He shared a 109-run partnership for the seventh wicket with Shardul Thakur.
2. Steve Smith scored 121 runs in the WTC 2023 final against India. Smith faced 268 balls and hit 19 fours in his knock. He shared a 285-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Travis Head. He was dismissed by Shardul Thakur.
1. Travis Head is the first batter to score a century in a WTC final. Head went berserk in the WTC 2023 final. He hit 25 fours and a six in his 174-ball 163. Eventually, he fell to Mohammed Siraj. His match-winning knock helped Australia post 469 on the board in the first innings.
There are two more batters who have crossed the fifty-run mark in a WTC final. Former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson scored an unbeaten 52 off 89 balls, including eight fours in the successful run chase against India. In WTC 2023 final, India's pace-bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur scored 51 runs from 109 balls. He was dismissed by Cameron Green.
