Arsenal defender Gabriel had escaped unhurt in a fight with robbers in the London who tried to steal his car earlier this year in August. The man who attempted the robbery using a steel baseball bat has pleaded guilty. The suspected man was supported by couple of more robberies in an attempted robbery.
CCTV footage emerges
A CCTV footage released by the metropolitan police has showcased how the robbers’ attempted the failed robbery. Gabriel was returning from a night out and had his Mercedes parked in his garage. This is when the attempted robbery took place as the man approaching Gabriel had a steel pipe in his hand. The video clearly showed how the robbers entered the garage and attacked the Brazilian defender.
Fortunately, the player was alert to the danger as he is often seen on the field as he successfully dealt with them. The defender passed the robbers' keys and his watch raising his hands up, while hiding away from them. It was later on confirmed that the robbers also wanted the 22-year-old defender’s phone.
The Arsenal defender will next be in action on Thursday night as Manchester United host the gunners. Mikel Arteta’s side is currently sitting fifth in the table as only goal difference separates them from entering the top four.
Sead Kolašinac and Mesut Ozil were also involved in a similar incident back in 2019. Kolašinac and Ozil also escaped unhurt as they showed bravery.
