Croatian star Luka Modric who was the poster boy of the 2018 FIFA World Cup stated that he has not made a call in regard to his future in international football and would only entertain the idea of hanging his boots after signing off from the World Cup in Qatar. The Real Madrid legend will be headlining the game against Morocco in Group F action on Wednesday and is confident to start their campaign on a positive note with a win in what is forecasted to be his last World Cup. Although the Real Madrid midfielder may be intent on not admitting that at the peaked age of 37 both age and time are tiding against him, he however feels fit as a fiddle and is focused on the present.
"Honestly, I feel good," said Modric. "I play with Real Madrid almost all the time. I still feel good when I play.
"I'm here at the World Cup to continue playing, to continue enjoying football. I don't think about what will happen later. I'm looking forward to it. It's a source of pride for us to know that we have all the support from the fans.
"I haven't made a decision [about his international career] yet, I'm here to play a good tournament and that's definitely what I have in mind. We will see what we do.
"We have faith in our chances, we have to be together like in the last few games. We have to take it one game at a time, we have a tough game ahead of us, but I think we can achieve a positive result."
When asked what he thinks of Cristiano Ronaldo's statement of retiring if Portugal wins the World Cup, the Croatian skipper said he would do whatever it takes to win the showpiece tournament, he replied: "If that's what it takes for us to win, then I'll say goodbye," said Modric. "We always give everything when we wear this shirt and I hope the fans are pleased with us. We're going to give our best."
Croatia are to face European powerhouse Belgium and underdogs Canada in the later games of their group, 2018 Ballon d'Or winner Luka Modric was the player of the tournament at that year's World Cup in Russia, leading Croatia to an astonishing run before losing 4-2 to France in the final. He has made plain that Croatia are not arrogant in their approach and has put whatever happened in the 2018 World Cup behind him.
"Yes, that's definitely the thing, we achieved great results in the Nations League. We played good games. High-quality games and we got great opponents in the past. This World Cup is different from the one in Russia in 2018, but we know our objective. We know our path. We won't be arrogant, we won't be hasty in announcing things. We are quite aware of our value and of our strengths. On the other hand, we are realistic with that," Dalic said.
