Former Spanish international Gerard Pique suffered yet another humiliation when he was booed by fans during an awards ceremony in Mexico. The clip from the Esland Awards 2023, which is a Twitch awards ceremony, went viral on social media and shows the crowd booing and jeering the former Barcelona defender as soon as his face came up on the screen.
These awards, which are organised by TheGrefg, took place on Sunday and special recognition was given to Spanish-speaking content creators.
Shakira and Pique were considered among the biggest power couples in World football, and the music industry, till the news emerged of the World Cup-winning defender cheating on the mother of his two children.
The break-up was not a cordial affair as well, as the Colombian pop star Shakira seemingly appeared to take a dig at her ex-partner and his new girlfriend, who is reportedly the 23-year-old Clara Chia Marti.
In her latest track, which has an overlay of electronic beats, Shakira reminds people of who she is and addresses her breakup.
“Una loba como yo no esta pa’ tipos como tu (A wolf like me isn’t for guys like you),” she says, referring to her 2009 mega-hit 'She Wolf'. “I won’t get back with you, not if you cry, not even if you beg me,” she sings in Spanish.
The duo announced that they were splitting up in 2022 after an 11-year relationship. Taking to social media after her breakup, Shakira wrote, “Even if someone has betrayed us, we have to keep trusting. In the face of contempt, keep valuing yourself.”
”Our tears are not a waste; they water the soil where the future will be born and make us more human, so in the midst of heartbreak, we can continue to love,“ she added.
