Spain's premier football competition — the LaLiga — is set to continue their fight against the evils of racism by launching another edition of the 'LaLiga Week Against Racism' in partnership with gaming company EA Sports. The week-long fight against racism will go on till March 21, which is also the World Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
The primary goal of the campaign is to raise awareness of the importance of eradicating racism across all areas of society. “Putting an end to racism is one of the objectives of LaLiga. We already condemn racist comments that are heard on the pitch and we have just created channels for fans to help us identify and report offenders. This second Week Against Racism helps us to raise awareness in society and to take further steps against racism,” explained Javier Tebas, president of LaLiga.
To show their solidarity against the victims of racism, the LaLiga and EA Sports will introduce the 'UNITY' kit, with which players can showcase their support in-game, said Chris Bruzzo, Chief Experience Officer of EA Sports.
These activities will span seven days, with online and offline activities to be carried out that will help to give visibility to the project and thus raise awareness among all fans of sport and art. This will include players wearing the UNITY T-shirts, calling on the audience to join the cause.
Additionally, information about the campaign will be displayed in the stadiums at various points, such as on the advertising boards, on 3D boxes, on the captain's armbands and on the video scoreboards.
The second LaLiga Week Against Racism is another step in LaLiga's ongoing fight against racism, discrimination and intolerance in football. One of the measures it is taking is to act as a private prosecutor in all complaints of racist chanting or possible hate crimes that take place at football grounds.
There is an email and Telegram channel set up where fans can get in touch and help facilitate the identification and reporting of those who engage in racist behaviour. These channels are:
Email: StopRacismo@laliga.es
Telegram: StopRacismoLaLiga
The campaign will give some regular rivals of the tournament will bond in unity against racism. Players like Iker Muniain of Athletic Club, Atletico de Madrid's Jose Gimenez and William Carvalho of Real Betis, will share their thoughts on how a diverse league is a much stronger and richer league.
