Liverpool star midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has picked Arsenal and Manchester City as the favorites for the Premier League title. He thinks that his side are not close to the two teams and are not going to challenge for the top this season.
Alexis Mac Allister backs Arsenal and Manchester City to win Premier League title
Interacting with Sky Sports, Mac Allister did not want to talk about the reason why they have not performed well this season, pointing out that they have changed too many things at the club. He added that they have no chance securing the title again and said:
"Many things changed as I said, new players came in to replace those who left, we changed too many things, but I prefer to keep it to myself. There are not many chances of Liverpool retaining the title. I hate to say it, but it is quite clear."
He went on to pick Arsenal and Manchester City as the clear favorites for the title and added:
"Arsenal is in a really good moment, Manchester City is quite close, but we are not close in terms of performances, or results, so I do not see us becoming champions again. It hurts because this should be a moment when we are enjoying the Premier League which we won and we should be in a much better place than we are."
Arsenal are six points clear at the top of the Premier League standings, with Aston Villa sitting second. Manchester City have a game in hand, against Chelsea on Sunday, January 4, and are currently sitting seven points adrift.
Liverpool player aims cup glory
Alexis Mac Allister has said that Liverpool need to aim for cup glory this season as the league title is out of reach. He believes that they van perform well in the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup and said.
"For me it is quite clear but in terms of goals, the Champions League is there and we will definitely fight for that one because it would be a very nice one. And the FA Cup, which is a really important cup for English teams. We are still there, we are going to play soon and that is another goal for us. When you play for Liverpool, you always have to fight for everything."
Liverpool will face Barnsley in the FA Cup Third Round next week. They face Marseille and Qarabag next in the UEFA Champions League, where they are ninth in the league table.
