Now, the experienced midfielder is set for a fresh chapter in Ohio, with Columbus tying him down through June 2027 and holding an option to extend his contract into the 2027–2028 season.

Columbus general manager Issa Tall underlined the significance of the acquisition in the club’s official announcement.
“André is a player who possesses exceptional tactical and technical abilities, demonstrated at the highest level of European football,” Tall said. “His experience, leadership, and professionalism will strengthen our midfield and have an impact across the entire roster.”
Andre Gomes’ résumé speaks volumes. The Portuguese international has previously featured for Benfica, Valencia, Barcelona, and Everton. On the international stage, he has earned 29 caps for Portugal and was part of the squad that lifted the UEFA European Championship in 2016.
Filling the void after key departure
The Crew’s move comes at a pivotal time. Colombian striker Juan Camilo “Cucho” Hernández, instrumental in the club’s 2023 championship triumph, has departed for La Liga side Real Betis.
With Uruguayan forward Diego Rossi now taking on a greater attacking burden, Columbus are banking on Andre Gomes’ composure and vision to provide structure and balance in the middle of the park.
