Real Madrid is again set to face SL Benfica in the first leg of the playoffs on Tuesday. It comes three weeks after Jose Mourinho’s side stunned his former club in a 4-2 win. Following this, Benfica went on to qualify and kept the Spanish giant from automatically reaching the round of 16.

The two sides are set to meet again on Tuesday amd while Alvaro Abeloa’s team will look for revenge, Mourinho has other plans. The Portuguese manager wants to eliminate his former club and the title favourites from the UCL.

As Mourinho addressed the media ahead of the much-awaited clash, the Benfica boss said:

“I want to eliminate Real Madrid from the UCL.” 

The former Real Madrid head coach continued: 

“But I really want Madrid to win La Liga, and I want Arbeloa to stay as their coach for many years”.

While Mourinho would want his team to knock out his former side, he also takes a lot of pride in his time with the Spanish club. The 63-year-old stated that he will always have a “feeling and the affection” for Real Madrid despite leaving the club 12 years ago.
