Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed the events that led to a surprise engagement to his partner, Georgina Rodriguez. He disclosed that the proposal was not planned and was done on the spur of the moment after his daughters asked him to do it.
In a conversation with Piers Morgan, Ronaldo said he had bought a ring for Georgina because she had dreamt of a big one. The Al-Nass skipper added that he was planning to gift it to her after dinner, but his friends and daughters changed it to a proposal and said:
"She asked me for a ring because it was one of her dreams to have, like a good stone. I work, worked hard, and I finally find what she likes, and I told my guy, 'Listen, keep it, we're going to do it at dinner tonight,' and I'm going to offer it to her. That's what we did [plan]. But after I stay with her alone, one of my friends takes his phone and is filming. They have never done, not even to ask me for a photo. It was like 1 am, my daughters were in bed, sleeping."
"My friend gave me the ring to offer it to Geo, and my two girls are coming, and they say 'Daddy, you are going to give the ring to mum and you're gonna ask her to be married.' And I said 'Wow, this is the right moment to say yes'. Geo didn't believe me. I knew that I will do it one day, but moment [when] my daughters [were] coming, I said yes, now is the time. This is what I want and because my daughters said and my friends were filming me."
The Portuguese star went on to reveal that he did not get down on one knee to propose as he had not prepared, and said:
"I didn't do that because I was not prepared, but it was a beautiful moment. It was recorded."
Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez shared the news of their engagement on Monday, August 11, with a picture of the ring on social media.
Cost of Cristiano Ronaldo's engagement ring for Georgina Rodriguez?
Laura Taylor, an engagement ring specialist at Loreal Diamonds, spoke to page six soon after Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez announced their engagement. She said that the oval-cut ring would have cost over $2 million for the former Real Madrid forward.
"Oval cuts are known for their brilliant faceting, which maximizes sparkle and gives the stone a bright, lively appearance from every angle. The center stone is flanked by substantial side diamonds, adding even more sparkle and making the already impressive main stone look even larger. This is a show-stopping ring, and easily among the most impressive we've seen in recent years, which feels perfectly suited to one of football's most famous couples."
Another expert, Ajay Anand, the CEO of Rare Carat, said that the ring could have cost around $5 million as it could weigh over 30 carats.
