Crystal Palace have set a firm £50 million price tag on England defender Marc Guehi, placing pressure on both Liverpool and Newcastle United as they enter a tense transfer standoff. The two Premier League giants, already locked in negotiations over Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, now find themselves competing for the Selhurst Park star.
Newcastle previously rebuffed at £65m
Newcastle made a strong push for Guehi a year ago but failed to land him after refusing to meet Palace’s £70 million valuation. Despite submitting offers that rose to £65 million, the Magpies were ultimately turned away. Palace chairman Steve Parish remains steadfast again, even though Guehi has just one year remaining on his current contract and has rejected all offers of an extension.
Liverpool’s initial £40 million bid has been swiftly rejected by Parish, and Newcastle are reportedly reluctant to meet the Eagles’ latest asking price, leaving Guehi’s future hanging in the balance.
Palace standing firm on Eze and Guehi
Crystal Palace’s transfer stance extends beyond Guehi. Fellow England international Eberechi Eze is also drawing attention, with both Arsenal and Tottenham monitoring his situation.
However, neither north London club has activated his £68 million release clause. Palace, once again, are holding their ground.
Glasner’s resurgence and squad stability
Under Austrian manager Oliver Glasner, Palace have enjoyed a notable resurgence. After losing star winger Michael Olise to Bayern Munich last summer, the Eagles regrouped to finish 12th in the Premier League and pulled off a sensational upset over Manchester City in the FA Cup final.
Liverpool reshape their defence
Liverpool are actively seeking a replacement at centre-back following the £35 million sale of Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen. With Ibrahima Konate entering the final year of his deal and attracting interest from Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, Marc Guehi has emerged as a top target.
Arne Slot’s side have already enjoyed a fruitful summer, securing key signings such as Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Hugo Ekitike, and Milos Kerkez.
Newcastle's transfer ambitions
Newcastle have responded by spending £55 million on Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest. They’ve also taken former Arsenal keeper Aaron Ramsdale on loan from Southampton, with an option to buy. The Magpies are also eyeing RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko potentially opening the door for Isak’s long-rumored move to Liverpool.
