Enzo Maresca declined a multi-million-pound payoff after departing from Chelsea. The Italian tactician resigned from his role at Stamford Bridge on New Year's Day after a breakdown in his relationship with the board.

Enzo Maresca turned down a compensation package

As reported by The Sun, the former Leicester City coach turned down a potential compensation package worth around £14 million. He joined the Blues in the summer of 2024 after leading Leicester City to Premier League promotion.

The Italian penned a five-year deal at Chelsea with an option of a further 12 months. His deal was reportedly worth around £4 million per season and he had a £14 million outstanding in his contract.

Enzo Maresca helped Chelsea win two important titles

Maresca's time at Chelsea lasted only 18 months and  led the club to win two trophies. He won the UEFA Europa Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup last season.

Why did Enzo Maresca depart from Chelsea?

The Italian tactician reportedly fell out with the board for various reasons. The key reason was the board's interference in his team selection process and other on-pitch decisions.

Chelsea have reportedly identified RC Strasbourg boss Liam Rosenior as the replacement for Maresca. The former Hull City defender has made a impressive impression in France, leading the fellow BlueCo-Owned outfit.


Expert urges Tottenham Hotspur to hire former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca

Pundit Jamie O'Hara has requested his former club Tottenham Hotspur to appoint ex-Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca. Maresca is currently without a club after quitting from Stamford Bridge after a clash with the board.

Jamie O'Hara has said that he would take Maresca at Tottenham Hotspur in place of Thomas Frank. The Lilywhites appointed Frank as their manager in the summer but the north London side have been facing difficulties to maintain consistency under the ex-Brentford manager. O'Hara told talkSport:

"I think if we could get Enzo Maresca. I'd go and get him right now. I think he's a good manager. He’s won the Club World Cup and the Conference League. I’ve watched Chelsea play and they battered Barcelona, battered Arsenal. They’re a good side. I think they made a mistake."

 

 

Consistency issues with Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur currently stands at 13th place in the table after playing 19 games with just 26 points in hand. On the other hand, Chelsea are fifth with 30 points and are being managed by under-23 manager Calum McFarlane.
