Rumors linking Manchester City striker Erling Haaland to Real Madrid have swirled for months, but recent reports suggest the Spanish giants are not currently pursuing the Norwegian superstar. While Haaland fits the “Galáctico” mould that Real has historically sought, the club appears content with Kylian Mbappe leading their attack.
Real Madrid not chasing Erling Haaland for now
According to transfer expert Ekrem Konur, Real Madrid has no immediate plans to pursue Haaland. “Real Madrid not considering Erling Haaland transfer right now. Club believes Mbappe covers their attacking needs,” Konur confirmed on social media.
The Blancos have been linked with Haaland since his departure from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, but the Norwegian opted to join Manchester City, following in the footsteps of his father, Alf-Inge Haaland.
At City, Erling Haaland has enjoyed tremendous success, winning a historic Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League treble in his debut season, followed by multiple domestic titles and Golden Boot awards.
Mbappe’s dominance reduces urgency for a new striker
One of the key reasons Real is holding off on any Haaland pursuit is the exceptional form of Kylian Mbappe. Since joining Real Madrid as a free agent in 2024, the France international has scored 29 goals in 24 appearances this season alone, helping the team despite occasional collective inconsistencies.
Mbappe has now amassed 73 goals in 83 appearances for the Blancos, proving his adaptability as a central striker after previously thriving from the left wing at Paris Saint-Germain.
With his contract running through 2029, Real Madrid has no immediate pressure to secure another marquee forward.
Could Haaland still be a future target?
While there is no active pursuit, Real Madrid may revisit Haaland’s availability in the future. The club has historically sought players of his caliber, and with his continued dominance at Manchester City, Erling Haaland remains a potential Galáctico option down the line. For now, though, the Bernabéu attack is firmly in Kylian Mbappa’s hands.
