Marcus Rashford's loan move to Barcelona
The English winger joined the Spanish club on a season long loan deal from Manchester United with a buy back option worth €30 million.
In Deeney's column for The Sun, he claimed Barcelona did entertain Rashford's claim of a tough period at Manchester United. He claimed that the environment at the Spanish leaves no room for personal ego, which could have been a big shock for Rashford, which meant that he had to fight for his permanent place.
"Walking away from a club where he was a huge figure, the message at Barcelona will have been stark: ‘We don’t give a f*** about Marcus Rashford, we had Lionel Messi here not long ago. They don’t care what he thinks or what he wears or does – he is there to prove himself worthy of playing for that club," wrote Deeney.
He added that a player has to work and play as per the ways of Barcelona, no one can bend their methods and the club made this very clear to Rashford right from the start.
"It shows you cannot have it your own way… You bend to Barcelona or you don’t play. Barcelona have now laid out to Rashford that ‘this is how we do things around here’. If you fall in line, the rewards will came– you’ll play for Barcelona, score goals and go to the World Cup with England," concluded Denney.
