Former Liverpool midfielder Igor Biscan has tipped Reds star Dominik Szoboszlai to go to Real Madrid because of his excellent skills and temperament. The Hungry international has been one of the biggest match winners for Arne Slot's side amid their tough season.
In a conversation with Boylesports, Biscan said that Real Madrid may be aiming to sign former RB Leipzig midfielder in the coming windows. He noted the durability of the 25-year-old, saying that he possesses a number of qualities which make him a perfect fit for the Spanish club.
"Real Madrid might be interested in Dominik Szoboszlai because his qualities are so good he can play in any team in the world. He is such a good player and is able to play in so many positions that any team in the world would probably want to have a player like him. He can defend, he can really be the one to put pressure, to be aggressive, he can deliver from set pieces, he can attack the box. He can do whatever he wants to do on the football pitch and be a threat, and run the whole day, and he’s also very good looking!", he said (via metro.co.uk).
Szoboszlai is going through his third season at Anfield, having signed for the Reds in the summer of 2023 for a fee in excess of £60 million. He has played 110 games for the Premier League side, amassing 17 goals and giving 17 assists in his time with Liverpool.
Former Liverpool player reveals reason for Real Madrid snub
Roberto Firmino left Liverpool as a free agent after the end of the 2022-23 season. While he went on to join Al-Ahli on July 4, 2024, Firmino recently revealed that he had the opportunity to join Real Madrid before this move.
Speaking to TNT Sports Brasil, Firmino said:
“There was, of course, [interest from Real]. To be honest, there was interest. My agency told me about it. And yes, it was recent, again, but not like before, you know, when there was that offer to go to Arabia.”
He added:
"Back then, there was real interest from Madrid. But there were a lot of factors. I wasn’t the first or even the second option, so I would have had to wait quite a bit. Not that I’m impatient, but I had to wait, you know?"
"Then the offer from Al-Ahli came, and I had to pray and think if that was really the right thing. So, that’s how it happened. I went to Arabia, and I believe the purpose was fulfilled there. I think that’s what was meant to happen. Of course, Real Madrid is a massive club. It would have been a great honour and pleasure to play for Real Madrid.”
While Real Madrid reportedly wanted to sign Firmino again at the end of the last season, the former Liverpool star ultimately joined Qatar Al-Sadd over the summer on a two-year contract.
