Story Highlights:

Jamie Carragher warns Liverpool could miss out on Champions League football unless they strengthen their defense in January.

Alan Shearer adds that Liverpool won’t win any trophies this season if performances don’t improve.

Former Liverpool legend Jamie Could miss out on the UEFA Champions League next season. He thinks that the Reds need to improve their defensive department in the January transfer window.

Speaking on The Overlap, Carragher claimed that Liverpool do not have a team that is capable of winning the Premier League title. He added that they could also miss out on Champions League football next season if they do not sign a defender and said:

"I think there are lots of little things. But if we're being honest, looking at the games they've lost and the type of games they've lost, they can't handle the physicality of the Premier League. Arne Slot wanted to move L'pool to almost have more football, more goals and entertainment. When he played Man City last week, he was talking up Pep like he was his hero, and he probably is for a lot of coaches."

"That's his football. He's trying to push L'pool one way and I think the Premier League has gone back in terms of physicality. I don't think this group of players is equipped to win the Premier League this year, even with the points and how far behind they are. Maybe in January [they need to sign players with], more physicality, more pace, more power. I think if L'pool don't sign a defender in January, they could miss out on the Champions League."

Liverpool were very close to signing Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace in the summer, but Crystal Palace pulled the plug on the move in the dying hours as they could not get a replacement.

Alan Shearer thinks Liverpool won't win anything this season

Premier League icon Alan Shearer has issued a warning to Liverpool that they will not win anything if they continue to perform like they did against Manchester City. He thinks that they will face elimination from the cup competitions, saying that their league campaign is already over:

"If L'pool continue to play like they did against Manchester City, then they won't win anything. They'll get dumped out of whatever competitions they're in. They've got the FA Cup and the Champions League, but I do think the league's gone for them now they've lost five games."

Liverpool are eight points behind table topper Arsenal and sit eight in the league table. They are one point off the top four, with Sunderland securing the spot after a brilliant start to the season.
