According to a report in MARCA, the World Cup winner has suffered an inflammation in his right ankle. The 26-year-old will undergo further tests with Real Madrid to have an analysis of the injury. The player was ruled out of the French side following the same issue in October.

The French Football Federation (FFF) confirmed the news, saying:

“French internationals Manu Kone, Eduardo Camavinga, and Kylian Mbappé have been released back to their clubs.”

Mbappe is reported not to travel to Baku and take part in the match against Azerbaijan on Sunday. The La Liga striker has played in every match for the Los Blancos this season. Xabi Alonso’s side is on an international break right now. Following it, the White will travel for a fixture against Elche and Olympiakos in the UEFA Champions League.

The FFF statement further said:

“Mbappé is still experiencing inflammation in his right ankle, which requires further examination. He will undergo these tests today in Madrid.”

Meanwhile, Mbappe has been the star of the match against Ukraine, where he double-scored in the second half of the game to help his side top Europe's Group D with 13 points from five games. France is now sitting comfortably on top with a six-point lead over second-placed Iceland.

Le Blues, who are unbeaten in a Euro or a World Cup qualifying game since 2019, will be seeded when the draw is out for June 11-July 19.  Meanwhile, alongside Mbappe, Eduardo Camavinga will also return to Madrid after the Real Madrid player picked up a muscle strain.
