Rumours around Lionel Messi leaving Inter Miami have taken over the internet. The Argentine might soon make a dreamy and emotional return to his former club. The World Cup winner had joined the MLS side in the summer of 2023 and is on the verge of departing to make his return to his boyhood club. 

Lionel Messi linked with shock return to former club

According to a report in the Mirror, Messi is eyeing a return to Newell’s Old Boys, the club where it all started. According to Newell’s vice president, Juan Manuel Medina, he spoke to TN, confirming that the discussions are underway to bring Messi back in the near future. He said: 

“We are working on Leo playing for Newell’s in the first half of 2027.”

Medina continued: 

“It’s a project for the city of Rosario, the province, and Argentine football. It all depends on what we can offer in terms of infrastructure and a competitive sports program.”

The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner is a product of the Argentine club’s academy, where he spent seven years before his iconic move to FC Barcelona at the age of 13. The Major League Soccer superstar has netted 234 goals for Newell’s youth teams. In addition to this, he also has a club’s stadium named after him.
